What is Turmeric?

Turmeric is a perennial plant of the ginger family which has a mustard yellow powder that is commonly used as a culinary spice in South Asia and has an active medicinal ingredient called Curcumin which has many anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, and anti-bacterial properties.

Turmeric is native to tropical South Asia and requires temperate climate with a considerable amount of rainfall to survive. In medieval Europe, turmeric became known as Indian saffron since it was widely used as an alternative to the far more expensive saffron spice. Turmeric has been used in India for hundreds of years and is a major part of Ayurvedic medicine after having been first introduced as a dye.

By the way I don't recommend Turmeric for juicing. There's a lot of juicing material on this site so I don't want you to get confused. I do recommend Turmeric as a spice on appropriate foods. It's actually quite good and beneficial to your health.

My personal Experience with Turmeric

I have recently tried Turmeric Juice from Whole Foods, though I'd recommend making your own, and not only did it taste great, but it made me feel better. I had some serious throat pain at the time and aspirin was only took the pain away about 20% where as the Turmeric numbed the pain about 80% so I can say that Turmeric does help with relieving pain. It tasted really good, granted what I had was mixed with other types of juice as well. Keep in mind you can also add Turmeric to your diet a number of different ways.

turmericWhat are the Benefits of Turmeric?

The health benefits of Turmeric have been recognized by Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine for hundreds of years and has been used to treat everyday problems such as indigestion, flatulence, arthritis, Alzheimer's disease, cancer, diabetes, HIV, high cholesterol, heartburn, jaundice, liver disorders, and menstrual disorders. Turmeric can also be applied topically in poultices to reduce inflammation and to relieve wounds, cuts, and bruises.

Alzheimer's Disease

Inflammation inside of the brain has been suspected to be one of the contributing factors in the development of Alzheimer's disease. Studies have shown that Turmeric has anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant activity. Therefore, regular daily consumption of Turmeric capsules may be an effective way to prevent the onset of Alzheimer's.

Arthritis

Due to its anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties, it is not surprising that Turmeric is now being used as an effective natural remedy for Arthritis pain. Therefore, taking 500mg to 1000mg Turmeric capsules three times per day may provide significant relief from osteoarthritis pain.

Asthma

Since turmeric is an anti-inflammatory, it can help reduce the inflammation associated with asthma. Add 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder to a glass of warm milk, and drink this mixture as an effective asthma home remedy.

Cancer

Several recent studies have found that Turmeric can induce apoptosis, a process that triggers the self-destruction and elimination of damaged (cancerous) cells. Further research is still required before the full effects of Turmeric on cancer cells can be determined. However, existing studies suggest that daily Turmeric powder or supplements combined with a balanced, nutritious diet may help prevent or even destroy cancer cells.

Colds and Flu

Turmeric's anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti-fungal agents can help our body fight against colds, cough and flu. Therefore, when symptoms of these infections are present, simply mix one teaspoon of Turmeric powder into a glass of warm milk once per day. Also drink plenty of water throughout the day.

Diabetes

Recent studies have shown that the antioxidant agents in Turmeric help reduce insulin resistance, which may prevent the onset of Type-2 Diabetes. Therefore, a simple preventive remedy is to take one teaspoon of turmeric powder twice a day with meals. Curcumin extracts or capsules can also be used as an alternative to the powder.

Inflammation

Turmeric's key ingredient Curcumin is known for its anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Therefore, Turmeric powder can help in healing cuts, wounds, and other skin infections including boils.

  • Heat one cup of Flax Seed Oil in a small saucepan on the stove.
  • Thinly slice a small onion and add it to the hot oil.
  • Fry the onions until they are dark brown and crunchy.
  • Remove the brown onions and mix 2 tablespoons of Turmeric powder into the oil.
  • Turn off the stove and let the oil cool down to a temperature that is comfortable to touch.
  • Using a cotton swab, apply a small amount of the oil onto the injured or infected skin area.
  • Apply this three times per day until the wound or infection is cured.
  • Save the remaining oil into an airtight container for future use.

For internal injuries, fractures, sprains, and herniated disks, dip a piece of unbleached cotton fabric into the warm Turmeric oil. The fabric or cotton pad should be large enough to cover the outer skin of the affected area. Secure it in place and leave this cotton pad on overnight.

You can also add one teaspoon of turmeric powder into a warm glass of milk and drink it before going to bed to prevent internal inflammation and infections.

Pain Killer

Turmeric spice is a natural painkiller.

Weight Loss

Curcumin in Turmeric powder has been found to help increase the flow of bile, an important component in the breakdown of dietary fat. Therefore, taking one teaspoon of Turmeric powder with every meal may be an effective weight loss aid when combined with a healthy diet and exercise program.

What are the Side Effects of Turmeric?

Moderate use of Turmeric powder as part of regular diet is fairly safe, and recent studies have found that a dosage of 500mg capsules of Turmeric three times per day is safe. However, prolonged consumption of high doses of Turmeric extract may cause stomach or liver distress, as well as dehydration and constipation. Therefore, it should be avoided by people with gallstones or bile obstructions. If you are currently taking blood thinners (including Aspirin), you should consult your doctor before taking Turmeric since it is an anti-platelet (prevents blood clots).

Benefits of Pineapple Juice
Pineapple is one of my favorite things to juice or eat raw. It just tastes great.  One of the most nutritious juices is fresh pineapple, as it contains many essential vitamins and minerals, such as vitamin C, Thiamine, vitamin B6, Manganese, Potassium, and Magnesium. I must stress the word "fresh" as processed pineapple juice is usually mixed with lots of sugar and many other unhealthy synthetic preservatives. You can gain as much as 75% of the daily recommended allowance of vitamin C which is vital to increasing the body's natural resistance to disease and in promoting cell growth and development which aids tissue repair. Without vitamin C, our bodies could not produce collagen, an essential protein responsible for the creation of our skin, scar tissue, ligaments, tendons, and blood vessels.  Vitamin C is one of the mos t important regenerative elements we can put into our bodies. Pineapple juice also contains a good dose of Potassium and Thiamine. You can't go wrong with Pineapple Juice.

Pineapples also contain bromelain, a proteolytic enzyme that helps us to digest protein, prevent blood clot formation, and aids us as ananti-inflammatory to help reduce swelling, arthritis, and numerous other issues.

How can you tell if a pineapple is ripe?

Pineapple fruit is ripe when it has developed a goldish tint, smells sweet and is slightly soft to the touch.

pineapplesWhere do pineapples come from?

Pineapples are indigenous to South America and is said to originate from the area between Southern Brazil and Paraguay. The natives of southern Brazil and Paraguay spread the pineapple throughout South America, and it eventually reached the Caribbean. Columbus discovered it in 1493 in the Indies and brought it back with him to Europe thus making the pineapple the first bromeliad to leave the New World. The Spanish introduced it into the Philippines, Hawaii (introduced in the early 19th century, first commercial plantation 1886), Zimbabwe and Guam.

Although it was discovered by Captain Cook, John Kidwell is credited with the introduction of the pineapple industry in Hawaii. Large-scale pineapple cultivation by U.S. companies began in the early 1900s on Hawaii. Among the most famous and influential pineapple industrialists was James Dole, who moved to Hawaii in 1899 and started a pineapple plantation in 1900. The companies Dole and Del Monte began growing pineapple on the island of Oahu.

Grapefruit Juice for Weight Loss

Grapefruit juice aids in more efficient metabolism of sugars and has a high fiber content with a low glycemic load.  It has been proven that a person can eat large quantities of food without consuming too many calories by choosing foods high in fiber and water content such as fruit, vegetables, whole grains, legumes and soups.

In a study by the Nutrition and Metabolic Research Center at Scripps Clinic, researchers have confirmed that the simple act of adding grapefruit and grapefruit juice to one's diet can result in weight loss. The grapefruit diet has been around since the 1930s.

Grapefruit juice also enhances the body’s absorption of coQ10, an energy compound vital to our cells and boosts the anti-cancer effect of certain drugs.

Scientific study: A U.S. study looked at the benefits of grapefruit by dividing 100 obese people into three groups: one group was given half a grapefruit before each meal, another had a glass of grapefruit juice, while the remaining third had no grapefruit.

After 12 weeks, those eating grapefruit had lost an average of 3.6lb and those drinking grapefruit juice lost an average of 3.3lb. But those in the control group who consumed no grapefruit lost only an average of 0.5lb.

Juice Fasting & Raw Foods: The most effective weight loss plan!

All these diet fads, operations, torture devices, and pills are all a waste of time, waste of money, and can cause you harm.  Most diet plans don’t last either.  Well the good news is that the solution to all this is adding juice fasting and raw foods (fruit, vegetables, and nuts) to your diet, but be sure you are not allergic to anything first.

In America we can see that the entire population is getting more and more overweight, but we all think it’s a normal part of getting older.  It’s NOT.  It’s a normal part of building up fat and toxins. It doesn’t have to be that way. We don’t have to get cancer or have all these health issues. Adding more raw foods and juicing is only a switch to consuming what we as humans are supposed to be eating.  All the processes to cook or preserves these foods lowers the quality and benefits of those foods.  The farther we get from the point of taking the food directly form nature, the more degraded it becomes.

Variety of fresh raw fruit and vegetable JuicesToday more and more people are realizing that juicing is the way to go. Personally everyone I ever knew that juice fasted has lost weight and kept it off.  It really is as simple as buying a good juicer and juice fasting occasionally and eating more raw foods. Now we are not talking about raw meat. Fruit Veggies and nuts.

It’s just stupid that everyone doesn’t realize how well juicing works. The logic is simple…

  1. juice fasting means getting a super charge of what your body really needs and you don’t expend as much energy digesting.  In turn this frees up your system to remove more toxins and fat.
  2. your body can prevent disease, cancer, and a clogged system if it’s getting useful materials as opposed to garbage.
  3. If your system is cleaner then your body functions as it did when you where younger and thus you also lose weight faster.
  4. You are taking in materials that digest better and faster as opposed to materials that turn into fat and sit there.
  5. The materials your body gets from fresh juice heals your body in many ways and you begin to function better and live longer.
  6. Juice fasting is how Hollywood actors lose weight fast for a role.

You don’t need crazy dangerous pills when juice fasting and eating more raw foods is far more effective and safer. Those guys are stealing your money. Don’t buy crazy diet pills.

Do the research. I can’t possibly put enough information in this article to convince anyone. You really gotta Google more sites and watch a number of Youtube videos from people who’ve actually tried it.

Healthy Fit WomanHow much do I need to Juice and how much raw food should I add?

This depends on how much you need it. Most people can just juice fast for a few days every couple of weeks and replace a few meals per weak with raw foods and/or juice.  But, if you are in dire need of help and are more than 100 pounds overweight then you should go all out vegan for awhile.

You do have to be careful about juice fasting too much. Some people do feel odd for a period of time during juice fasting as you detox but then you come back form that and feel great.  There’s pros and cons so you just don’t want to go too nuts with it. Do the research on this site as well as others and Youtube.

What about taste?

In my personal experience most of the stuff you can make will taste really good. Even green juices can taste pretty good if you add lemon, ginger and/or mint.  You will most likely run into a few things that taste bad, but most drinks taste better than anything you can buy in the store.  Just be sure to drink it right away or store it in the fridge for only a day or so in a totally air tight container filled to the very top.

Don’t go too nuts and mix too many ingredients together. Melons should be juiced by themselves and greens should go together.

How long will it take?

It will surprise you that you will lose weight almost right away. If you juice fast periodically but also make sure to juice or eat just raw foods (not meat) for 40-60 percent of your daily meals then you should reach your ideal weight within a year or so depending on how overweight you are.  Obese individuals may require more intense changes along with an increase in exercise. Remember you are not really dieting or depriving yourself because you are just switching to eating the foods we humans where always meant to eat and you can eat as much as you want of these foods.

Beautiful Young Girl Juice FastingWill it stay off?

For most people it will. Once you adopt this to your lifestyle, you realize how easy it is to lose the weight so if you do start to go off the wagon then you simply do another juice fast and quickly regain.  Basically everyone I know who’s tried juicing has stayed thin.  You don’t starve yourself so there’s no rebound effect. There’s no crazy pills getting your system out of whack and most of those are deadly. Stay away from the pills. You don’t need them.

The cost?

Even more good news. The cost is less than any of these diet plans, pills and surgery. Not only that your food costs will go down over time and you’ll have more money to spare. You do have to buy a good juicer which will run you $100-$300 and you may need more than one type of juicer to be able to juice everything or supplement with a personal sized $20 blender. You’ll have to replace that juicer every 1-3 years but in the long run you save money. You also save on health costs later on. It’s not just for weight loss. Your whole body becomes healthier.

Why doesn’t everyone do it?

Good question. It works so well that it’s really stupid that we all just don’t know to do this. It should common knowledge.

Here are some reasons…

  • I think people just don’t know the logic behind juicing and raw foods
  • They are afraid of the taste. Like most foods there’s good and bad but most of it tastes REALLY good. Once you know what to avoid then it’s all good.
  • Just the fact that it’s advertised in a medical way as a diet.
  • A juicer is expensive for most people.
  • People follow everyone else and everyone else is eating whatever they want thinking that it’s just normal behavior.
  • It’s not easy to adopt juice fasting in a work environment
  • Pills, surgery, and strange devices are advertised so much that Juicing couldn’t possibly be the answer right?

I think mostly people just simply don’t know.  When I was first told about it..I totally ignored the advice. It wasn’t until I really started researching and looking into it that I wanted to change what I eat. I didn’t need to lose that much weight but I tried it and it worked.

Again, you really should Google more sites and I’m certain this site is not the first one you came across. And you should watch a number of videos as posted on this site or on Youtube itself to really see what it’s all about.

So the answer is really as simple as juicing and raw foods, but you don’t have to become a vegan. Just adopt this diet as much as you need to based on your situation.

The bottom line is, yeah the pizza and burgers are great but your body is healthier and functions better on the materials it really needs.
